the distinction between asian american communities in different cities amuses me.

today i sit at a dim sum to go place eating my padan so jook happily since i just took out my wisdom teeth.

now my version of asian is different from someone in china

different from someone in l.a.

different from someone in the bay.

different.

"Your dish looks very good what is it called?" (In Cantonese)

"Umm...(pause) padan (smile)!"

"Padan, oh thank you very much!" (In English)

only because the nice old lady realizes my long pause as i try to digest what she asked me and repspond in a correct manner only to reveal my non-cantonese-ish.
