i love olives. if you ask me what my favorite condiment or snacky food is...its black olives.
black olives in particular, especially those ones that come in a can. i dont really care if they're chopped or whole. as long as they're seedless.
i grew up calling them "o-lieus"
according to my mother that's french,
according to the rest of america that word just renders funny looks,
according to myself its just one of those words that my family mispronounces
taking a reading class when i was little because in addition to my inability to count money, i also couldn't read good (ha) and really it was just an hour of my day spent with a jewish lady and my good friend ashley talking about random things that i think had something to do with learning how to read.
jewish reading teacher asked: what's your favorite topping on a pizza?
and i quickly reply "o-lieus!"
followed by a good 5 minutes of me describing olives but refusing to acknowledge that they were called olives "you know those black things that are circley and go on pizza?!"
i also remember going to subway to my then teenaged uncle and him giving me all the olives i ever wanted and being quiet contented with life
and just recently my grandma says to me while i cut in front of her for olives at the buffet line "every time i eat these i think of you"
which is the whole point of my story.
i love black olives.
